Five Question Friday - Sept 30

1. Do you apologize to your kids if you're wrong?
Yes.  I think it's only fair we apologize if we're wrong.  How can we teach them about right and wrong if we don't follow the same rules.  Thankfully Lynden is still small enough that he doesn't catch it most of the time.

2. Do you have a class ring, letterman's jacket, or similar obscenely overpriced high school "must have"?
No.  I kept a few things from high school but nothing like that.

3. If you could be one age for the rest of your life what would it be?
I don't know, which probably means I haven't found that perfect age yet.

4. What is your favourite (unused) baby name?
Everleigh.  When Alyssa was born we were down to those 2 choices, with the decision made by Danny.  We didn't go through many names when choosing the the kidlets.  Danny and I had an agreement which made my job fairly easy.  I got to name first boy and Danny got to name first girl.  The second time around Danny got to choose the name either way since he got first girl and second boy.  I had Lynden picked out since I was about 16 and had no girl names, so having a boy first made my life easy.  If we should decide to have a third baby I'd get to name a girl and him a boy.

5. If you could make your child like something what would it be?
At the moment, his swimming instructor.  He's fine in the water, he's fine doing the skills but if the teacher comes near him it's full on screaming and crying.  Hopefully he'll get over it next week when we don't go into the water with him (it sounds harsh but he can do it he just needs to listen and learn from the instructor).

Darn You Pintrest

I mentioned awhile back about how I had discovered Pintrest.  It's ridiculous!  When I'm on the computer and bored I go to Pintrest, which causes me to lose track of time.  I have this notion that it will help me be a more creative person.  There are SO many cute and easy and wonderful ideas on there and I want to do so many... but I haven't done any... yet...

The one thing I am looking forward is building a bench for our fireplace.  After watching Danny build a table for our deck I'm convinced I can do it in like an hour (it's going to take me several...days... if I'm lucky.  Who am I kidding?  It'll take me an hour and then Danny will take over and it'll get done).  It was the first thing I pinned and it will be built (I'm aiming to have it done before Thanksgiving weekend).

There are a lot of Great kid ideas.  One idea I love was a memory picture (that's what I'm calling it), which is where you have a photo of your child at a milestone (say a birthday) and write on the photo key things about them.

A 3 Year Old's Birthday

On Saturday Lynden turned 3!  I spent the week cleaning the house and getting ready for Friday, which was my cupcake day.  I made 48 good cupcakes and 12 bad cupcakes (the first batch didn't work out) and iced, decorated and fought with them all in less than 5 hours.  I then spent the last half of the day cleaning up and getting ready for my in-laws that were on route from the Okanagan for Lynden's party.

In the end I was happy with my cupcakes - next year I'm going back to a cake.
suppose to be Lightning McQueen but they turned out pink
still yummy

When Lynden got up on Saturday morning we gave him his "Birthday Boy" badge, which he wore all day and gave him his present, a Lightning McQueen ATV.  Sadly, something is wrong with it and we cannot charge it so we're returning it this week.  Lynden had a great time for the 30 minutes he was able to play with it.

A To Z

I have gotten a little behind on my blogging (both writing and reading) since late last week.  I got a little consumed with a 3 year old's Awesome birthday party (more on that later).  However, my brain is still a wee bit fried from it all and I was stuck as to what to blog about until I fill you in on our wonderful weekend.

Then I found Sherry's post from Oh So Lovely and Bingo!  I had a post.  Enjoy!

A. Age: 26 (only for another 2 months)
B. Bed size: Queen and it's not big enough with 2 kids.
C. Chore that you hate: Pretty much all of them.  Friday while waiting for our company to arrive Danny was hanging pictures and pointed out the dust on the frames and asked if it bugged me at all.  I told him I don't really see dust - I don't, so I'm guessing it doesn't bother me.
D. Dogs: None

E. Essential start to your day: Normally would be breakfast but the kidlets kinda want to be tended to first.  So, peeing...  I also pee before I do anything in the morning (don't look so grossed out, we all do it!)
F. Favorite color: Green, any shade
G. Gold or Silver: White Gold
H. Height: 5’9ish.  I say 'ish' because we had a sword at work Years ago that was 5'8" and I wasn't taller than it but I'm 99% sure I'm between 5'8" and 5'9"
I. Instruments you play(ed): None

J. Job title: Currently, SAHM.  Before: Assistant Manager
K. Kids: Lynden and Alyssa
L. Live: BC, Canada
M. Mother’s name: Katherine, but she likes to be called Barni
N. Nicknames: Bear (my mom and stepdad)

O. Overnight hospital stays: Had my tonsils out in 3rd grade and when I had each baby
P. Pet peeves: Those damned squeaky shoes - whoever designed those needs to be hung by their toes.  I HATE those shoes
Q. Quote from a movie: My first thought was "Freedom"

R. Right or left handed: Right
S. Siblings: 2 sisters, Barbara and Miranda
T. Time you wake up:  MUCH earlier than I'd like (can be anywhere from 5:30-8:30am; I prefer the latter)

U. Underwear: Burgundy
V. Vegetable you hate: No idea... Jalapeno pepper... is it a vegetable?
W. What makes you run late: Kids and husband
X. X-Rays you’ve had: Teeth and knee

Y. Yummy food that you make: Tonight it was Chicken Pot Sheppard's Pie but Danny's votes are Strawberry Rhubarb pie and my veggie lasagna (oh, I should make that soon)
Z. Zoo animal: When we were there on Sunday we saw a bunch, the Eagle was amazing.  We missed all the "cool" animals due to a wet train ride (I'll leave you with that cliff hanger so you'll read my zoo post later this week).

Good Gracious Me, You're Turning 3!

Lynden,

You are days away from turning 3 and I cannot believe it.  It doesn't seem that long ago I was pregnant with you, feeling you roll around in my belly.  I can still see your face the moment I saw you and the look in your daddy's eyes when he told me you were a boy.  Your daddy and I spent the first 3 days just watching you.  We were in awe then and we still are today.

In the past 3 years you have learned SO much.  You've gone from a baby who could do nothing for yourself to an amazing boy who is trying to do everything yourself.  It's amazing to watch you trying to figure things out on your own.

Prediction Update

Back in June I predicted Alyssa would be crawling by the end of August, which came and went with no real signs of crawling.  She would get up on her hands and knees and rock.  She would move her hands, slightly, and maybe one leg but she would decide to flop back onto her belly and inch around.

During the first week of September she actually took her first crawling "step" but she didn't seem to like it much and went back to inching again.  I decided after that she probably wasn't going to crawl since she's quite efficient at getting around without it.  I was further cemented in my thought when she started pulling herself up by using a stool (she is determined to stand but she's got these Adorable chubby thighs and skinny ankles, making it hard for her to stand for long).

Are Our Children Safe?

On Wednesday morning a 3 year old boy was abducted from his home (you can read about it here), after almost 4 days of searching little Kienen was returned home last night.  Thank god!  I have spent the last 4 days checking the Internet constantly hoping for an update saying he was found or at least spotted.  I was so happy when Danny came in to wake me up and said "they found the little boy".

It has been 20 years since a story like this has captured the country like this.  I was 7 when Michael Dunahee went missing and I, vaguely, recall the media frenzy.  With Kienan being 3, the same age as Lynden, it has captured my attention fully.  As a parent your heart breaks for this family as I try (not) to imagine what is going through his mother's mind.  Sadly, it's a reminder as to how easily your child can be taken from you no matter where you are.  I know I've made a more conscience effort to check all doors are locked when we go to bed or when we're out and about during the day.

Five Question Friday - Sept 9th

It's been awhile since I've done a Five Question Friday, I've kind of missed it.

1.
What ringtone do you have on your cell phone?
Umm... I don't know what the name of it is.  I have a tendency to choose a catchy annoying ring; this way I'll want to answer it on the rare occurrence it does ring.  Seriously, I have 200 minutes a month I can use and I might use 50 on a busy month.  On the flip side, I love my unlimited texts, since I send 300-500 texts a month.  Hi, I'm Amanda and I'm a textaholic....

2. What is your favorite memory from this summer?

Lynden's Birth Story

Lynden's birth story started the weekend before he was born.  My grandma was coming to stay with me while Danny was working (he wasn't taking any time off until I had the baby) so if I needed to get to the hospital quickly someone was able to take me.

On Sunday Sept 21st my grandparents arrived from visiting a close family friend in the Okanagan.  The following day my grandpa left for home and my grandma and I spent the day grocery shopping.  We were going to spend the week cooking meals we could freeze so when the baby came dinner was one less thing to worry about.

By the time we got home we were tired and decided to start cooking the next day.  Danny and I went to bed that night around 10.  Around 11:45pm I woke up warm and needing to pee so I rolled out of bed (I was in a lot of discomfort from my pelvis separating at 25 weeks so getting out of bed took some work) and waddled to the bathroom.  I was surprised to discover my underwear was wet but because I was warm and sweating I chalked it up to sweat.  Danny woke when I turned on the bathroom light and asked if everything was ok, I told him it was.  He was just about back to sleep when I decided I needed new underwear and asked him to get me some.  When he handed it to me I "peed" again and thought either I peed myself for my water broke so I remained on the toilet to see what my body was going to do.  I asked Danny if the bed was wet at all and he told me a little bit, so I went back to thinking it might have been sweat.  Then I "peed" again.  I told Danny "I think my water just broke", he was up, awake and alert in about 2 seconds.

Yawn

For the last 5 nights Alyssa has been up every 2-3 hours for a feeding and I'm EXHAUSTED.  It's like having a newborn again and she's almost 8 months.  I don't know if it's caused by her switching to 2 naps a day, growing, teething, or her just wanting more to eat.

On Friday we went to my mother in law's for dinner and I discovered I am not feeding her enough.  About 40 minutes before dinner she was nursed, normally she can wait 30 minutes for solids but not that night, followed instantly by twice as much banana as I would have given her.  Less than 30 minutes later she was demanding food again and while we ate our dinner I gave her twice as much pear as she would normally get.

Birthday Countdown

22 days until my son turns 3!!!  Time flies.  At the moment I'm more excited about it than he is, but I think that's because he doesn't understand his birthday is coming soon... very soon.

I'm excited because his last 2 birthday's have been small to-do's and this year we're having an actual party for him.

More Love

Awhile back I did a post called Love, since then my wonderful kids continue to do things that make my heart swell.

Here are some more things I love about them:
